 Self-Designed Art Exploration

A nine-week group project exploring art as a method of reflection and designing a piece for a community space.

This was a really special honors experience for me because I got to work on it with some of my closest friends. We also got to partner with The 86 Coffeeshop and donate them an art piece to display. The 86 is one of those places you can go that feels cozy and home-like to study or catch up with friends. I really like going there and it's almost always busy. Getting to create something for them that represents their mission and their community was very rewarding.

The first part of this experience my friends and I worked on individual art projects that were centered around themes such as a space music playlist, perspective, and self-reflection. It was interesting to work on art with a specific focus and to see how everyone's pieces were so different under the same general themes. I think this experience gave me a new appreciation for art and for the people who dedicate their lives to it. It also made me want to continue to improve my amateur art for my own enjoyment.

The piece for The 86 took a lot of planning and discussion between everyone. However, after the many headaches, I think it turned out well and everyone at the cafe seemed to really like it. If you want to read more about the individual projects or the symbolism behind the piece at The 86 check out the website I designed to showcase all of our work! Linked below.
