Gateway to Honors

Gateway to Honors is a required course for first year honors students. It introduces you to the mission statement of the honors program, what is required of you as a member of this community, and what it means to be a global citizen scholar. I think this class has been a good way to start my journey in the UC honors program.

So far, I have learned about the requirements that must be met to participate, like gpa and honors experiences. I have also learned about the importance of self knowledge and reflection. For example, everyone in the class took the Clifton Strengths Inventory and received our top five strengths. I thought all of the strengths identified fit me, but some resounded more than others. My positivity and developer strengths are definitely important to me because they help me improve the lives of others. I think that everyone has a lot of potential in their own individual ways and I like to help others realize that and support them along the way. I want to continue to learn about my strengths so that I may utilize them in the pursuit of my goals.

This course has made me excited to be a part of the honors program here in the years to come. I hope to learn more about myself as well as the people around me. I also want to become more aware of issues in my community and far from home, so that I can work with others to solve them.
