Certifications to Look For
Below are various seals and certifications to look out for when shopping! Click on any image to explore their website.
Rainforest Alliance: Indicates that a product or business meets environmental, social, and economic sustainability standards.
Forest Stewardship Council: Have a variety of certifications and labels to indicate that a product or company has met standards for sustainable forest management.
Leaping Bunny: A label under Cruelty Free International to identify products that are cruelty free and made without animal testing.
Guaranteed Fair Trade: Certifies that member organizations meet standards for fair trade and sustainability.
Please note that not every ecolabel or certification meets the same criteria for sustainability and fair trade so it is important to identify which products and companies are doing good and which are not reliable and merely greenwashing. Consumers International has a good overview of what this means. A list of common certification trustworthiness breakdowns can be found at ethical.net.
